The role Join Wise’s Quality Assurance team and help us build world-class, scalable operations that keep customers safe and deliver great experiences. In this role, you’ll provide independent, expert assurance over how work is done—spotting risk, identifying control gaps, and turning insights into clear, practical improvements. You’ll balance attention to detail with strong judgement, using data and tools to form well-reasoned conclusions that stand up to scrutiny. You’ll work closely with partners across the business, sharing themes and trends, contributing to consistent decision-making, and helping raise the bar on quality—while keeping pace in a fast-moving environment aligned to our mission of Money Without Borders. We are looking for candidates with extensive experience in AML Investigation, SAR Reporting, Fraud, Sanctions. Key Responsibilities: Trains and coaches QA specialists to achieve and maintain competence across the team, through accreditation and ongoing monitoring (through Calibration including “Check-the-Checker” testing). Continually perform horizon scanning to identify planned changes which impact QA practices and ensure that assessment performed by QA Specialists adapt to these. Reviews the most complex and high-risk cases and leads on thematic reviews using test scripts and scorecards to assess compliance with policies, guidance and risk appetite. Acts as a Subject Matter Expert, resolving complex queries/escalations from QA specialists and coaching them to drive correct, consistent decision making and effective Root Cause Analysis. Supports Audit/Regulatory activity when required. Leads calibration activity internally within QA, and with other stakeholders (e.g. Operations, Products and Line 2) to ensure consistent, correct outcomes are achieved and drive best practice. Challenges QA findings to ensure they are fair and correct, based on risk appetite and policy. Foster team collaboration, sharing knowledge and best practice and mentor colleagues to enhance team capabilities. Uses advanced analytical techniques and AI to analyse QA outcomes and data to identify trends and analyse/investigate more complex issues and root causes inform actionable insights and recommendations. Presents insights to stakeholders and Forums (when required), influencing continuous improvement. Take a proactive approach to consistently achieving individual and team targets (KPIs, SLAs), demonstrating a strong commitment to both quality and speed. Meet deadlines, optimise processing times and take full ownership and accountability to deliver results. Perform additional tasks as assigned by your lead, demonstrating adaptability and a proactive approach. This includes actively participating in meetings, training, and internal events to support broader team and company objectives. Embody and uphold Wise’s values in daily interactions. Qualifications Professional experience: 3+years of QA or experience of working cases in a relevant function (AML Investigation, SAR Reporting, Fraud, inclusive of coaching others in domain relevant subjects. Fluent in English (written and verbal skills) with the ability to clearly articulate your thoughts and recommendations. Self-development: Is committed to learn and develop deep expertise through industry and trend analysis, regulatory insights, and emerging risk typologies. Functional skills: Quality Assurance methodology: Good experience of Quality Assurance methodologies and frameworks, including testing procedures, scoring criteria, root cause analysis and continuous improvement. Identifies opportunities and takes ownership for driving and influencing improvement across the QA team and wider organisation. Risk and Compliance expertise relevant to the function, including ability to identify and assess risks, interpret and apply policy requirements and guidance, and a strong understanding of the regulatory environment. Analytical Skills: Capable of reviewing complex customer files and evidence robust risk-based decisions regarding . Training and competency assessment: Ability to train and coach QA Specialists on the technical aspects relevant to the domain, as well as all aspects of QA methodology, testing, scoring and root cause analysis to ensure QA Specialists achieve and maintain competency. Systems & tools: Proficient at using systems, dashboards and AI tools to analyse data, trends and provide actionable insights. The role The High Risk Assessment Senior Lead is responsible for overseeing multiple High Risk Assessment Team Leads and their respective specialist teams. The role As a High Risk Assessment Specialist , you will play a critical role in ensuring Wise's adherence to regulatory and compliance standards. You will be responsible for mitigating risks associated with high risk customers, while maintaining compliance with AML/CTF regulations and internal policies according to Wise's risk appetite. The role The Business Operations Tooling team is a product-focused team dedicated to building and improving the essential tools required by the Operational teams. Their primary goal is to enable each Operational person to efficiently maximise the amount of high-volume business customers they can serve by centralizing data, simplifying workflows, and automating time-consuming tasks. The role The team you will join: Tax Experience With Wise Assets, we’ve enabled customers to grow the money they hold with Wise - giving them access to government-backed assets that track base rates, or a global stock index fund. This is a product that challenges traditional banking by putting customers in control of how their balance is held. Banks keep the yield; we pass it on. The approach is unique: • A current account backed by real assets • Daily returns across the entire balance • Instant access with no penalties or lock-ins • Segregated, bankruptcy-protected custody About the Team: Our investment products create tax obligations. The team mission is to make tax season effortless and seamless for Wise customers. We strive to simplify tax complexities by doing the heavy lifting for them, ensuring they easily understand their tax obligations. Additionally, we provide comprehensive, crystal-clear reporting to guarantee total product transparency. Our goal is to empower customers with the insights they need to feel completely confident in our platform and understand exactly how it works for them. What you’ll do • Partner with a Product Manager and a cross-functional team to shape the roadmap, set the technical and product vision, and ensure we deliver scalable, resilient solutions. • Lead, coach, and mentor a talented group of engineers — helping them grow, removing blockers, and enabling them to do their best work. • Ensure strong execution: clear planning, realistic commitments, and healthy team operations. • Stay close to the tech and the product — setting high standards for engineering quality and leading by example. • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. • Work with other engineering leads across Wise to keep the team aligned with our wider technical strategy and long-term architecture. • Own hiring, development, and long-term impact of your team. Qualifications We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. A strong product mindset and passion for user experience, you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audiences Ability to work independently while also being a supportive team player. Your work will frequently involve cross-team collaboration. Ability to break down complex projects into incremental milestones that deliver customer value Ability to coordinate complex projects across different teams Experience in developing web applications and distributed systems in a production environment Experience with common design and architectural patterns coupled with a passion for writing clean code that is performant and well tested Curiosity and drive for continuous learning and improvement Following and advocating best coding practices, continuous delivery and code reviews Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas is a plus Knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, and with a messaging system, like Kafka, is a plus. The role The team you'll be working with : Payout Core Whenever Wise needs to deliver money — whether through a customer transfer, a business payout, or an internal operational flow — the payout domain is responsible to make this happen. It receives a request: "pay this amount to this recipient," and figures out the how: which partner integration to use, considering availability, bank holidays, and operational windows. It then coordinates the execution, handles retries when things go wrong, and provides the delivery time estimates customers see. Every outgoing payment at Wise flows through the systems this team owns. Payout Core is a newly formed team, dedicated to owning and evolving this domain. We're building the team from the ground up, and we need an Engineering Lead to shape its technical direction, lead its engineers, and drive an ambitious long-term vision: making the payout domain a product-agnostic platform that any team at Wise can use to send money out. What you'll do You'll be joining Wise as an Engineering Lead for Payout Core, with both tech lead and people manager responsibilities: As a tech lead, you will be responsible for the quality of your team's technical solutions, including code quality, architecture, performance, reliability, and adherence to company-wide engineering standards. You will own the payout domain's technical roadmap — from evolving the domain's architecture to designing the next generation of smart routing. You will make sure the team is building the right product in a scalable, sustainable way. This is a hands-on lead role: you will write code, review code, and contribute directly to delivery alongside your team. As a people manager, you will be responsible for your team's productivity, goal setting, career path identification, and supporting the engineers in their individual growth. You will make sure the team has the right size and mix of people, deciding when to hire and who. You will nurture and evolve the team's ways of working as it transitions into an independent, focused unit. Across both: you will drive the payout domain vision, align stakeholders across the organization, and represent the team in cross-team architectural discussions — both reviewing and producing RFCs for decisions that affect the payout domain. A long-term vision that's ambitious and still being defined — optimizing how we route payments across partners, building a product-agnostic payout platform — with the space for the team to define how to get there. A role that grows with the domain — as the payout platform evolves, so will the team's scope and yours with it. You won't be doing this alone — you'll have a team with deep domain expertise beside you, and direct support from engineering leadership across the organization as you shape the team's direction. You have experience as a tech lead or engineering manager, with a proven track record of guiding and developing engineers, fostering their growth, and building high-performing, autonomous teams. You have a strong product mindset, consistently prioritizing customer needs and making data-driven decisions. You understand why something is being built, what customer problem it solves, and what the expected impact is. You demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, have excellent communication skills, and a collaborative spirit. You can drive cross-team projects and articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. You have the ability to own and articulate a technical vision and turn it into a concrete roadmap. You have extensive experience with Java or Kotlin, including proficiency with the Spring framework and understanding of microservice best practices. You are skilled in working with relational databases, including query optimization and designing robust schemas. You are a strong advocate for best coding practices, enjoy writing testable code, and actively participate in code reviews and open feedback. You are comfortable operating in ambiguity — this is a new team with a lot to define and shape. Ultimately, you're someone who gets things done and consistently delivers results. Nice to have: You have experience with payments or financial infrastructure. You have experience building highly reliable and highly available systems in high-traffic environments.
